As summer approaches, it’s time for students to take their well-being seriously, especially those moving to a new climate like Bidholi, Dehradun. While Dehradun is known for its pleasant weather, the summer months, especially May and June, can bring a brief but intense spell of heat. For students coming from cooler regions of India, this sudden shift can feel overwhelming.

At Agrasen Mansion Boys Hostel, student health is our priority. While we ensure our residents are well taken care of with clean, comfortable spaces and nutritious meals, here are a few must-follow health tips to stay safe and energised during summer.
💧 Hydration is Non-Negotiable
Water is your best friend in the heat. Whether you're attending lectures, studying, or heading for classes, carry a reusable water bottle at all times. The dry heat can cause dehydration before you even realise it. Aim for 8–10 glasses of water daily, and supplement your hydration with:
Buttermilk and fresh juices
Coconut water
Infused water with mint and cucumber
🥒 Eat Smart: Focus on Cooling Foods
What you eat matters just as much as what you drink. Include seasonal fruits and vegetables that naturally cool the body:
Cucumber, tomatoes, bottle gourd, and spinach
Watermelon, muskmelon, and oranges
Curd and yogurt-based dishes
The Agrasen Mansion kitchen team thoughtfully incorporates these into daily meals, ensuring you're not only full but also fueled right for the weather.
🌿 Hygiene & Skin Care in the Heat
Warm weather can lead to sweating and skin irritation if proper hygiene isn’t maintained. Here’s what we recommend:
Take regular showers, especially after returning from outside
Use a mild face wash and keep a clean towel for your face
Wear breathable cotton clothes
Apply sunscreen if you're walking during peak sun hours (11 AM – 4 PM)
🚶♂️ Be Prepared for the Weather Shift
While Bidholi isn’t as harsh as northern plains or coastal cities, the sun can still surprise you, especially if you’re from Himachal, Uttarakhand hills, the Northeast, or southern hill stations.
Adjusting takes time. Keep a water bottle handy, wear a cap, and don’t ignore signs like dizziness or fatigue. These are early symptoms of heat stress.
🛌 Rest and Recharge
Summer fatigue is real. Ensure you're:
Sleeping 7–8 hours daily
Taking breaks during long study sessions
Using light bedsheets and keeping your room airy
The quiet, well-ventilated rooms at Agrasen Mansion help maintain a cool and calm study-friendly environment even during warmer days.
Your Health Comes First
Dehydration, sunburn, and exhaustion are preventable with the right habits. As you gear up for a new academic journey at UPES, don’t let the summer heat take a toll on your health.
Start strong, stay aware, and take care of your body.
Remember: A hydrated student is a focused student.
📍Stay Safe. Stay Cool. And don’t forget your water bottle!
